Lee Hills is the founder and CEO of SolutionsHub. Here’s a bit about Lee and his story so far…
Where do you live?
Onchan, Isle of Man.
Can you tell us about your family?
I’m engaged to Zita and we’re due to get married in Douglas, in October this year. My step daughter is eight years old. Her name is Emily but I call her “Little Jeff” (I am Big Jeff).
Please tell us about your role – what are some of the things it involves?
As a CEO of a small company, there are numerous strategic duties but, mostly, I am just a member of the team. We work very closely together to deliver projects on time and on budget and keep our diverse range of clients happy.
Can you tell us about your career so far? How did you arrive at SolutionsHub?
I previously worked for most of my career in the regulated fiduciary sector where I specialised in obtaining licenses for remote gambling businesses. In 2016 I started considering establishing my own advisory firm. My intention was simple – I worked for many years advising start-ups, but never had the responsibility or control of one myself. I wanted to challenge myself, prove I could “walk the walk” and improve my life and the life of my family.
With the support of my fiancee, Zita, I decided to back myself and opened SolutionsHub in June 2016. Three years down the line, we have an amazing team, brilliant clients who have been with us from the beginning, rapidly growing customer base and revenues, and still at the forefront of everything blockchain. Stressful? Of course. Rewarding? Exponentially.
What are some of the most enjoyable things about your job?
I enjoy the pioneering nature of some of our work – getting licenses and regulatory approvals where no other company has had one and working closely with regulators, fiduciaries and lawyers to deliver the seemingly non-licensable.
I really enjoy offering strategic input and developing clients develop embryonic ideas to revenue-generating businesses, troubleshooting and risk-mitigation and identifying opportunities for our clients.
I also relish building SolutionsHub as a brand, including everything from networking at events to building our websites.
What are the aims and your hopes for SolutionsHub going forward?
We are already regarding as the leading authority in crypto and blockchain gambling licensing, as evidenced by our work with various operators and 2019 EGR Award for Cryptocurrency Services Supplier, but it is not enough.
We want to continue to dominate the sector by offering our unique expertise, capabilities and network, but also to continue our great work with general blockchain companies, not just to continue leading the space not just in the Isle of Man, but internationally, by creating a hub of blockchain businesses.
We have assisted with the Isle of Man’s first hard-capped ICO at $40M and numerous other ICOs and STOs over $10m, but this is just one piece of the puzzle.
Living and working in the Isle of Man, this is where I call home and I want to ensure as an island we maximise the opportunity.
As a jurisdiction, we had a bit of a ‘false start’ with crypto, but I have taken the time to build deep networks in the blockchain community, spending evenings, weekends and often the early hours of the morning working with international partners to enhance the Isle of Man’s reputation and show exactly what the Island can offer. This has led to numerous businesses establishing operations on the island, employing high-quality staff and doing things that have never been done before, in some cases, anywhere.
This allows us to bring in other local businesses into the fold, with the activities are no longer scary.
Essentially we do it first, do all the hard-yards, then repeat, repeat, repeat.
As we continue to grow rapidly, my number one concern is that we continue to deliver on-time and on-budget, enhancing our reputation, and by extension the Isle of Man’s reputation, as a jurisdiction one can come a do businesses, even with the most complex of propositions, and we simply get the job done. No fuss, no additions budget required, just delivery. This transparency and ability to deliver sets us aside from other companies and jurisdictions, and will be the backbone of our business.
What do you like to do away from work?
I love to spend time, with Zita and Emily, play pranks with Little Jeff and, on the occasions we get chance to enjoy a holiday, I really enjoy visiting the Greek islands.
Please tell us something about yourself that not many people know
To de-stress, I love to build large-scale Lego buildings including train stations and townhouses.
